Otoplasty involves repositioning protruding ears and/or reducing the size of large ears. This procedure is often performed on children as young as five years old.
Approximately 2 hours.
Local anesthesia or sedation.
Hospitalization is not necessary. It is an outpatient procedure.
The patient can return to school or work within five to seven days and may resume more strenuous activities (such as contact sports) in one to two months.
A special compression garment (ear band) is required for 4 weeks.
Generally permanent.
